Brazil posted a foreign trade surplus of $372 million in the past week, the trade ministry reported Monday.
In the March 19-25 period, exports totaled $4.84 billion, while imports were $4.47 billion.
With the latest figures, Brazil's year-to-date trade surplus totaled $1.52 billion, 42% lower than the surplus at this point last year, the ministry said.
Analysts expect a decrease in Brazil's trade surplus for 2012 after the country posted a trade surplus of $29.79 billion in 2011. According to a weekly survey of economists published by Brazil's central bank earlier Monday, the country is seen posting a 2012 surplus of $19 billion, slightly down from last week's forecast of $19.1 billion.
