The Brazilian government's economic activity index fell for the second consecutive month in January, confirming a slowdown in the economy.
The index, known as the IBC-Br, showed economic activity declined in seasonally adjusted terms by 0.13% in January from December, the central bank said Monday.
By comparison, the December index showed a 0.57% decline in economic activity from November.
For the 12 months to January, the IBC-Br showed economic activity rising 2.44% against the previous 12-month period. That also represented a deceleration from December, when the comparable 12-month figure was 2.79%.
